Yes it is wrong. An animal might be in your life for a short time, but its thier ENTIRE life. Be the bigger person and lavish the pet with love. This creature is completely dependant on you (and your family) for its entire existence and happiness. It has through no fault of its own, become a burden to you. But whats done is done. Step up and be the example of how this animal should be cared for with kindness and attention. I feel that sooner than later you will see others mimicking your behavior. You could go so far as flaunting the fun you are having and relationship you are enjoying with this animal and others will want that, too. Remember, you get more flies with honey than vinegar.
