Darwinian thinking influenced psychological thinking in that people viewed behaviors that continued to be performed in terms of the behavior's adaptive advantage. There were theorists who also assesed individual and societal behaviors in terms of their usefulness in maintaining the survival of the individual and/or the species. The adaptability of a behavior is still considered in explaining why behaviors continue.
