The dependent variable is what is being measured.
Example: Your hypothesis is "Eating vegetables will increase your IQ."
The independent variable is whether or not you eat vegetables.
The dependent variable is the increase in IQ.
Example: Reading decreases depression.
The independent variable is reading.
The dependent variable is depression.
