My boyfriend started taking xanax recently for his "panic attacks". I have panic attacks from PTSD, but I have never seen him have a panic attack as I have had. He just seems to get quiet for a few minutes and says he doesn't want to talk, and that he is having a panic attack. He has seen the same pediatrician (he is over 20) his whole life, and refuses to get an adult doctor, and especially refuses to see an actual psychiatrist. He does have a very stressful job, and I can understand his anxiety, but I don't think it is really much worse than mine and I don't take anything for it. It's normal nerves that everyone feels. He seems to abuse his xanax judging by his side effects. His doctor prescribed him 1mg Alprazolam up to 3 times a day, and he also takes paxil two in the morning, and one at night (I am unsure of the mg). He ran out of his prescription last month and didn't refill it for atleast a whole month )seems to me he doesn't really NEED it), until he got it refilled when his paxil ran out. The very first day he had it I came home from school to find him groggy, with food all over his mouth, and his eyes didn't seem to be focusing very well (they looked googly for lack of a better word). He was moving very slow, and had a hard time keeping up with me while we made dinner. The next morning he had forgotten the whole night. He forgot what we had for dinner, and the conversations we had. We got into a fight about his xanax abuse. I counted his pills to find he was 26 pills short of this whole script, yet he claims it must have been a pharmacy mistake (this is the second time I counted pills the day after he got the script to find that many missing, and he blamed the pharmacy).Today he threw up at work and came home early to his parents giving him an intervention about the xanax. Today I had to remind him atleast 5 times what we have planned for tomorrow, and when we are going to my best friends birthday party. This is getting really frustrating. I love him more than life itself, and we have no relationship problems except for the xanax. His panic attacks never bothered our relationship, but this drug IS. I'm so upset and lost and I don't know if I should call his doctor and spill the beans about his amnesia and how disruptive it is to our lives, or what. Is there a way I can convince him to stop taking it short of throwing it out? I'm worried he might lose his job if he is as forgetful there as he is at home, since he works in a hospital.
