Freud said that  the ego is the mostly unconscious part our personality that brings together the demands of the id, superego, and what we see as reality.

He also felt that the ego prevents us from acting on our basic urges.  Urges are created by the id, another part of the personality model.  The ego also helps us to achieve a balance with our standards for morals and ideals which are created by the superego.

hmm, forgive me for a little conflict of interest here, but I seem to have leared that Frued, jung, Adler and many others seemed to believe the Ego was the concious side of our mind, leaving the Id and the Superego as the Unconcious and unrational sides.

The Ego is what keeps a great balance between them 3 entities. They believed if a person had chilhood traumas or something of the sort, it meant their Id and Superegos were so distraught, the Ego could not balance them.

Just a clarification; I could be wrong, or my reading source might have a mistake. Just putting this across.
