Can stress cause a person to see images that aren't really there?

If any anyone can offer any suggestions to the question asked it would be sincerely appreciate. My daughter is experiencing some long term issues concerning her father. The thought of spending time with him or even communication with him causes her to panic and stress out. I just recently found out that she sees dark figures or tiny bugs. She says that she knows that they are not real but they scare her nonetheless. I asked her if she has these visions if she gets stressed out about anything else (school, relationships, friends and other family members) and she says no. She only has these episodes when she has to communicate/spend time with her father in any way The time leading up to the event causes her a lot of stress & anxiety. And when she is with him she has the episodes as well. She just started seeing a counselor as of yesterday on a weekly basis. Any additional insight that you can shed on this situation or what she is experiencing would be sincerely appreciated.
